Training for Brecca (swim 8k run42k) and Ironman Barcelona RSS

It's showtime.

So Race week has arrived. In general the plan and the training went well. I missed a fair few sessions but I don't think I missed any key sessions, I got all the hard sessions in the week but missed some of the easy ones, in fairness I was swimming too so that may have been ok. I did a bit of a trial run in training and ran 21:40. It's the fastest I've run in a good while and it's 100 seconds off where I need to be but I think Race day will get me the rest of the way there and the fact that i've told so many people I'm going to do it I'll have...

Burning Rubber.

Delighted to announce that Asics have come on board as a sponsor of the Break 20 minutes. It's going to be very similar to the Nike project we've three men whose combined weight is more than twice the weight of Desisa, Kipchoge, Tadese. The three men who attempted for Nike to break two hours. Liam Dillion- A veteran of running at this stage and very much the elder berry of the group. Realistically he's there to set a strong early pace, but he's not expected to last himself. Michael Bolger- If the weather is hot Michael will struggle in the heat. Most of his best races are done in the winter not a fan of the sun. Has done...

Living on a prayer

So Three weeks into the sub 20 minutes for 5k and i'm not as confident as I was last week. I missed all my bike sessions again for the 3rd week running!! haven't got on a bike since Quest. I missed two run sessions for the first time since I started the run plan. Now in fairness they were two "recovery" easy paced runs so i'm not too worried. I did two speed sessions again and one longer run. Was struggling with motivation early in the week which meant I missed my swim on Monday with Titans then did no running either. Had done nothing all day Tuesday and was down to do a tough Interval session, in...

Good Week/Bad Week.

I actually felt like I had a really solid week training this week and missed very few sessions then I went to load up the picture above and realised there's a lot of Red (missed) sessions and there's the one Yellow is basically means an incomplete session.   The sub 20 5k plan has me usually doing a speed/interval session on the Tuesday's and something fast again on the Friday. So the plan said 2 mile warm up 4 miles tempo and 2 miles cool down. I went out at a very easy pace for the warm up about 5:30 per k thinking this is grand, then first mile I ran 4:40 per k pace by the time I...

Slight Change of direction!!

Ok so i'm only 4 weeks into an Ironman training plan and already i'm getting bored!!!   The bike training was grand, there was a purpose to each session. The swimming was just masters groups so there's no time to get bored but the running was just so bland. It was always run 45mins easy, run 50 mins easy, run 55 mins easy and that was it. I'm not good at doing Intervals and fartleks so I feel I needed to add them to the sessions. I decided to replace the running sessions with a 6 week plan to break 20 minutes for the 5k. It's a much shorter term goal than the Ironman and I feel I...
